Worshiping God the Father – What Jesus and Paul Teach Us

Discover how Jesus always worshiped the Father and how Paul directed most of his worship to Him — guiding us to grow deeper in prayer, relationship, and faith

Introduction

I am 57 years old, and when I was 18, I began to pray with a deep desire to learn how to pray in a way that truly brings results — in line with God’s plan. That journey has shaped me and brought me closer to the Father.

💡 Highlight:
Jesus taught us to worship the Father, and Paul directed about 85% of his prayers and praises to God the Father.

A Personal and Spiritual Learning Journey

In my work as a Network Advisor, I am inspired by the idea of bringing together leaders from different sectors — people with diverse backgrounds but similar challenges. Within your own field, it is easy to develop tunnel vision. That’s why it’s so valuable to engage with others, broaden your perspective, and grow together.

📌 Pull-quote:
"As Christians, we grow by learning from each other, even across denominations and traditions."

Paul prayed that we, together with all the saints, might know the length, width, height, and depth of Christ’s love (Ephesians 3:18-19).

Jesus and Worshiping the Father

The life of Jesus was entirely devoted to worshiping God the Father. Everything He did focused on the Father’s will. He said:

“The Son can do nothing by Himself; He can only do what He sees the Father doing.” (John 5:19)

When the disciples asked Him to teach them to pray, He began with:

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name...” (Matthew 6:9)

💡 Highlight:
Today, we are familiar with lifting up Jesus in our worship and recognizing His central role, yet He always leads us to the Father.

Paul’s Example in Prayer

Paul almost always directed his prayers to the Father:

  • “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named.” (Ephesians 3:14-15)

  • “We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you.” (Colossians 1:3)

📌 Pull-quote:
"About 85% of Paul’s prayers and worship are directed to the Father, with Jesus as the Mediator."

Jesus Christ as Mediator

Jesus holds a unique position as Mediator. Through His sacrifice, we have bold access to the Father (Hebrews 4:14-16). Now He sits at the right hand of the Father (Hebrews 1:3; Romans 8:34), interceding for us.

“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5)

The Role of the Trinity in Worship

In worshiping the Trinity:

  • The Father gives,

  • The Son accomplishes,

  • The Holy Spirit manifests.

💡 Highlight:
Jesus and the Father are distinct, yet together with the Holy Spirit, they form one God in our worship.

A Broader View of Worship

This blog emphasizes worship of God the Father, but worship of Jesus and the Holy Spirit is also essential. Jesus is central in our worship, but always in relation to the Father. Recognizing the Father enhances our experience of the Trinity and deepens our faith.

Conclusion and Invitation

The Bible shows that God the Father, Jesus Christ as Mediator, and the Holy Spirit each have a unique role in worship and faith. Jesus and Paul primarily directed their worship to the Father — an example that invites us to deepen our own prayer life.

📌 Pull-quote:
"May this reflection help you see Jesus as central in your worship, while honoring the Father and following the guidance of the Spirit."

I encourage you to reflect:

  • Which place do you give God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit in your worship?

  • How does this understanding inspire you to draw closer to God?

Might we together follow Jesus’ example, worshiping the Father in Spirit and truth, while honoring Him, His Son, and the Holy Spirit?
